In the 3rd figurative painting of our Fall/Winter 2023 Collection, the artist conjures the familiar Greek tragedy of Icarus. Using his signature materials - Sandstone and Gold Leaf in this dream-like painting, the story of an angel who flew too close to the sun is signified. The two materials compliment each other due to their natural qualities, and the color combination of Gold & Brown is a familiar staple in his work. The figure is covered in gold so that viewers can see themselves in the reflection! This stylistic decision is meant to encourage interaction with the work, as well as to generate conversations around the value of relationships.
